The ABC shot is an acronym that stands for the ingredients used - Absinthe, Bacardi 151, and Chartreuse. The ABC shot, also known as the Absinthe, Bacardi and Chartreuse shot, is a popular cocktail that has been enjoyed by many over the years. The origins of the ABC shot are uncertain, but it is believed to have originated in the United States during the 1990s.

The ABC shot comes in different versions, for example the Amaretto, Bailey, and Coffee is a variation of the popular Irish Car Bomb shot, which is made with Irish whiskey, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and Guinness. The ABC shot is made by substituting the Guinness with coffee liqueur, which gives the shot a more sweet and creamy taste, making it more of a dessert drink.

The popularity of the ABC shot can be attributed to its unique combination of flavors and its easy-to-drink taste. The combination of Amaretto, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and Coffee Liqueur creates a sweet and creamy taste that is perfect for those looking for a dessert drink. The ABC shot is also relatively simple to make, making it a favorite among amateur bartenders and party hosts.

Additionally, the ABC shot is often used as a celebratory drink, making it a popular choice among those who are looking to celebrate a special occasion.

Another reason for the popularity of the ABC shot is its versatility. The shot can be consumed as a dessert drink, after dinner drink or a celebratory drink. The ABC shot can also be customized to suit personal taste by adjusting the ratio of the ingredients or by adding additional flavors.

ABC Shot Variations

There are variations to this shot that play on the A.B.C. acronym. However, it’s important to note that whilst there are variations out there, the above recipe is the original. This shot was made to be deadly and the combinations below have much less alcohol in terms of proof (ABV%).

The two most popular variations can also be layered Pousse Café shooters.

Variation 1:

  • Amaretto
  • Bailey’s
  • Cognac

Method: Layer in the order given above.

Variation 2:

Instead of using cognac, use Cointreau instead. Follow the same method, layering Cointreau on last.
